What is the preferred route of drug administration? Why?

UPDATE:
-IV is the preferred route of drug administration. The reason for this is because the medication is "absorbed"faster than any other route. We are entering drugs right into the vein, which than takes that drug to the heart, and other sites that need to be stimulated (or need the affects of the drug). When we give medications IM and IO, it takes a little longer for the medication to be absorbed. Also, with oral medications, the drug has to pass through the liver (first pass), which than causes the medication to be detoxified, thus reducing the amount of medication that is able to get to the need site.
